New Delhi:

"Inspired by real events", the powerful trailer of Love Sonia is guaranteed to leave you speechless. Love Sonia, which premiered at the London Indian Film Festival in June, has a strong cast including the likes of Freida Pinto, Richa Chadha, Anupam Kher, Adil Hussain, Rajkummar Rao and Sai Tamhankar. Model-actress Mrunal Thakur stars in the titular role of Sonia - a naive village girl - who eventually gets engulfed in the dark world of prostitution and human trafficking. Sonia's sister Preity is sold off to a pimp (played by Anupam Kher) and is forced to sign up for the global racket of prostitution. The film also stars American actor Mark Duplass and Golden Globe Award-nominated actress Demi Moore.

While Sonia is left back home, one fine day, she decides to pack her bag and scoot off in the search of her sister Preity, unaware of what lies ahead her. As Sonia bumps into the menacing world of human trafficking, she is ready to jump headfirst into every battle with the belief that each unprecedented incident will take her closer to Preity. That's also how the film gets its name - Sonia makes a promise to Preity and signs it off as "Love, Sonia."

Love Sonia was named the Best Indie film at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne while actress Richa Chadha, who plays the role of a brothel owner in the film, won Best Supporting Actress prize.

Manoj Bajpayee, who plays a dalaal in the film, recently told IANS in an interview that he hopes that the Central Board Of Film Certification releases Love Sonia without cuts and edits: "I think if Love Sonia will be released without any cuts then whoever will watch it, he or she will get affected and disturbed by the subject of the film. It will make the audience think about that issue so it is necessary to release this film without any cuts so that people will know about women trafficking where small girls are being forced into prostitution."

Directed by Tabrez Noorani, who also co-produces the film with David Womark and Rakesh Singh, Love Sonia releases in India on September 14.
