Kangana Ranaut to NDTV: Was Hit on Head, Lay Bleeding, Fought Back

Kangana Ranaut in conversation with NDTV's Barkha Dutt.

New Delhi: Exposing the dark underbelly of Bollywood, actor Kangana Ranaut has revealed to NDTV's Barkha Dutt that she was physically abused by an industry insider.

Ms Ranaut, star of films like Queen and Tanu Weds Manu, said she was 17 at that time. (Also Read: The Truth About Kangana Ranaut Starring in Sanjay Dutt Biopic)

"He hit me hard on my head and I started bleeding," she said opening up about how a man who was "old enough to be my father" violated her. The 28-year-old said that she hit the abuser on his head with "a sandal, but eventually his physical strength overpowered mine."

When asked how the episode changed her, she said "I realized I'm a fighter, I could have killed him."

Describing this assault as an eye-opener, she said she realized then "There are no free lunches."

In the course of the conversation, when asked to describe herself, she said "I'm a total bad ass."

The actor was speaking at the launch of Barkha Dutt's new book, This Unquiet Land.
