New Delhi: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar said that a remake of Sholay is generally a bad idea and that he would never be able to reprise any character from the movie.

Sholay, which featured Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Hema Malini, will complete 40 years of its release on Independence Day, this year.

At an event to promote Brothers, Akshay, who was accompanied by his co-stars Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez, was asked whether he would be like to be a part of the remake of Sholay.

"Sholay cannot be remade. It would be injustice, so don't even think about it. And if I am asked to play a role in the remake, it's not possible. The way it has been made, it would be injustice to portray the characters in the same way," said Akshay. (Also Read: Akshay Kumar Says Gabbar Is Back is Not Sholay 2)

Sidharth also said that he loved the movie. "I love the star cast and the scenes. It is a film which has lived for 40 years and we thoroughly enjoy it even when we watch it today," he said.

Meanwhile, the actors are gearing up for the release of Brothers, which is an official remake of the 2011 Hollywood film Warrior. It also features Shefali Shah and Jackie Shroff.

Brothers is slated to release on August 14.
