Kashmir University postpones exams scheduled on January 16, 17

New Delhi: Kashmir University for the second time in this season has postponed exams which were scheduled to be conducted on January 16 and 17 in view of heavy snowfall. According to Meteorological Department, fresh snowfall was recorded across Kashmir with some places in the higher reaches of the Valley witnessing heavy snowfall.

"All Kashmir University examinations scheduled to be held on 16th and 17th January 2017 (Monday/Tuesday) are postponed," said a spokesman as reported by Greater Kashmir.

Fresh dates for these exams have not been declared yet.

Meanwhile, normal life was today disrupted in Kashmir due to fresh snowfall, which led to the closure of Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and affected flight operations here as well.

"Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has been closed for traffic due to bad weather," an official of the Traffic Department told PTI.

High altitude tribal areas and mountain passes in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh had also received another spell of light snowfall yesterday while the piercing cold wave sweeping most parts of Himachal Pradesh continued with some places shivering with mercury staying between minus 17 and 22 degree Celsius.

The local MeT had warned of heavy rains or snow at isolated places in mid and higher hills today due to a fresh western disturbance but no report of heavy snowfall or rains has so far been received from any part of the state. Kalpa in tribal Kinnaur district recorded 2 cm of fresh snow till this evening while Nehru Kund near Manali and Rohtang Pass received 2 cm and 5 cm of snow.
Last week Delhi government extended the winter vacations of government and government-aided schools till January 19 after a forecast that the temperature might dip further in coming days. The schools were scheduled to reopen after winter vacations on January 16.
