Taking cognisance of a viral video showing blatant traffic violations by a motorcycle rider, Delhi Traffic Police have identified the vehicle and the accused, initiating strict enforcement action in the case.
DCP (Traffic) told NDTV that the incident took place on April 3 at around 8.58 pm in the Kotwali Circle area, along the Tis Hazari-Subhash Park stretch towards Chatta Rail.
The video, which surfaced on social media, allegedly showed the rider indulging in dangerous zig-zag driving, putting not only his own life at risk but also endangering other commuters on the road. A video showed two men on the bike riding rashly even while a police car was in their vicinity.
Following verification and scanning several CCTV cameras installed in that region, the rider was identified as Ashu, the registered owner of the motorcycle. Acting promptly, Delhi Police traffic department issued a challan citing multiple violations under the Motor Vehicles Act and Central Motor Vehicle Rules.
The officer said, "The offences listed include disobeying lawful directions (Section 179 MVA), riding without a helmet (Section 194D MVA), driving without valid insurance (Sections 146/196 MVA), dangerous driving (Section 184 MVA), and not possessing a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate (CMVR 115/190(2)). He further said such violations are taken seriously due to their direct impact on road safety."
The challan record also notes that the rider was using an Instagram handle named 'Saddamshooter', indicating that the violation may have been recorded and shared on social media.
In addition, the violator has been directed to attend a counselling session at the Delhi Traffic Police headquarters. Authorities stated that such sessions are aimed at sensitising offenders about road safety norms and responsible driving behaviour.
As part of enforcement, the vehicle's Registration Certificate (RC) has been digitally impounded.
