Two held for allegedly trying to rape minor

New Delhi: Two young men were arrested in west Delhi this morning for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a minor girl in a makeshift gymnasium at a public park.

The incident took place at Vikaspuri locality at around 10 am. The girl, along with her brother, hailing from Shimla, was in the city to attend their grandmother's funeral.

Dayanand (30), who works as a guard in the gym, and Rinku (28), a cleaner, were arrested in connection with the incident, a senior police official said.

The children -- a ten-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl -- along with their parents had gone to the park in Vikaspuri's C block. While playing, they strayed into the gymnasium where they were allegedly assaulted by two men.

The incident came to light when the children did not meet their parents at the exit gate of the park.

"During searches, the parents saw their son being restrained by Dayanand while Rinku was taking off the girl's clothes," the official said.

The parents then raised an alarm and locals gathered there. They handed over the duo to police after beating them up.

A case of attempt to rape and forcible restraint has been registered against them.
