New Delhi:
A 25-year-old woman was set ablaze by her jilted lover and five others at her residence in north west Delhi's Bhalswa area for turning down his marriage proposal. Three accused have been arrested.
The accused have been identified as Abhishek, 22, Karan, 23, and Vijay, 23, all residents of the same area, a senior police officer said.
According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday night when the accused Abhishek along with his friends Vijay, Karan and three more persons went to the house of the woman and started beating her parents with iron rods, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (north west) Vijayanta Arya said.
"Abhishek asked the woman to marry him, but when she refused his proposal he poured fuel on her and set her ablaze," the ADCP added.
The officer said, "They were harassing her for the last ten days."
"We have arrested three accused and are also looking for three other accomplices," he added.
The woman was admitted in hospital with over 70 per cent burn injuries.
Her condition is said to be stable, police said.
