CBSE to launch 24-hr call centre on Feb 15

New Delhi: To facilitate communication between the board and students and to enable easy access to information on schools, syllabus, exams, fee structure and results, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is setting up a round-the-clock call centre at its Delhi office.

Officials say the call centre is expected to be operational from February 15, and all schools affiliated with CBSE have been issued a circular about it. Board officials said that the initiative was taken to emphasise the importance of parents' involvement in school affairs, which is essential. "Heads of schools will be advised to have continuous interaction with parents for quality enhancement of schools. Parents and students can also file complaints about irregularities in schools at the call centre," said an official.

The decision was taken after demands for a call centre gained momentum from various stakeholders about frequent communication with the board. A ten-member team would be dedicated to the call-centre. "For now, the call centre will be meant only for facilitation of students, whose queries will be answered. Our main objective is to increase transparency," stated Rama Sharma, PRO, CBSE board.

Since the board does not have a office in the state where most of the CBSE schools are based schools, parents and students, say that a call-centre will be of great benefit. "This was something that was needed. Since we don't know how they will respond to our problems, it's too early to say anything," said Mihika Niha, a parent.

Helpline operational from today
Starting today, the board has also opened a 24-hour helpline to cater to students and parents during board exams. It will help students fight stress and answer queries during their exam, which would be commencing later in the month.
