Businessman shot at trying to stop chain snatching

New Delhi: A 35-year-old businessman was shot at when he chased a group of men who tried to snatch his mother's gold chain in south Delhi on Thursday.

Rohit Wadhwa and his mother Darshan Wadhwa (55) had left their residence in a car and the tyre got punctured. Mr Wadhwa was looking for an auto for his mother, when two men on a motorcycle tried to snatch her chain in Kalkaji.

"He saw two men trying to snatch the chain from his mother. He started chasing them but they accelerated. Because of jam, they slowed down but panicked when they saw Rohit chasing them and fired a bullet at him," a senior police official said.

The crowd did not stop the bikers as they were frightened by the firing, he added.

Mr Wadhwa was shot at on his shoulder and was taken to the Holy Family hospital. His condition is said to be stable.

The Wadhwa family owns two bakery shops, one in Kalkaji and another in Alaknanda market.
