20-Year-Old Girl Jumps Before Delhi Metro, Commits Suicide

New Delhi: A 20-year-old girl, a student of Delhi University allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a running train at Race Course metro station this evening. The incident took place at the Yellow Line at around 3:45 pm.

According to police, the woman jumped from platform number two of Race Course metro station on the track in front of a train. The train was coming from Huda City Centre and going toward Jahangirpuri.

"The 20-year-old girl was rushed to RML hospital where she was declared brought dead," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Sanjay Bhatia. The reason behind her extreme step is yet to be ascertained as no suicide note was recovered from her possession.

We have informed her father about the incident, he said. The woman was identified as Murtaza, a resident of Najafgarh in southwest Delhi through a library card which was found from her. The card was issued by authorities of Kalindi College where she was a student of BA Final year, police said. The incident caused a minor delay in train operations on the Yellow Line.

"A woman jumped in front of the train around 3:45 pm. She was taken out from the under frame of the train and sent to a hospital. This led to bunching of trains and delay of about 5 to 10 minutes," said a Metro Spokesperson. Police have registered a case and further investigations are underway.
