181 prosecuted for drunk driving in Delhi

New Delhi: Delhi Police's drive against drunken driving saw 181 more prosecutions on Friday, taking the total number to 2,182 since March 1.

According to a message posted on Saturday by Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg on Facebook page, the crackdown will continue in the days to come.

"(A total of) 181 more prosecuted for drunken driving on 9th March in two hours," posted Garg.

Garg said the drive was continuing beyond Holi.

"We surprised the city Friday... maybe they thought we will relax. We will keep on surprising people of Delhi if the tendency to drink and drive continues... some people are beyond redemption," he said.

Six people were killed in road accidents in the capital on the day of Holi on Thursday. A total of 8,526 people were prosecuted for traffic rule violations.
