US envoy moved by Jodhpur hospitality

Jodhpur: "When one comes to India, he comes as a tourist but when one leaves this country, he feels part of the family," said Timothy Roemer, the US ambassador to India after visiting the dusty villages in Jodhpur district on Wednesday. He was touched by the welcome and hospitality of the village folks as he is on an official visit to Jal Bhagirathi Foundation (JBF) in Jodhpur and will stay till October 15.

Roemer visited JBF's Water Resource Centre (WRC) where he met several village women who explained the impact of the sanitation project in their village. Through the maps, the women showcased the impact of the project interventions and the status of the village before and after the project interventions. Similarly, they interacted with the ambassador and told him how life has become easier for them with the enhanced capacity of community water harvesting structures as they do not have to carry head loads of water over long distances anymore.

Later, Roemer visited a small village named Surani, 40-km away from Jodhpur to learn more about community water management systems. The member of the village community institution Jal Sabha, also explained the water management system.
