Agartala: Three people, including a local leader of the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), were killed and 32 injured when a mini-truck in which they were travelling in overturned in Tripura, police said on Thursday.

"A mini-truck carrying CPI-M workers to a party gathering at Sabroom in southern Tripura, 140 km south of Agartala, overturned on Wednesday evening following a technical snag. Two people were killed on-the-spot," a police spokesman told reporters.

At least 33 people, injured in the accident, were shifted to hospital where the condition of ten of them was stated to be critical.

One of the injured died while undergoing treatment in hospital.

Forty-year-old CPI-M local tribal leader Sadhan Tripura, a village committee chairman, was among the three killed in the accident.

At least 30 people were killed and 50 others injured in different road accidents this month in Tripura.
