Mumbai:
A 43-year-old struggling actress, recently arrested by the Oshiwara police for allegedly stealing valuables worth over Rs7 lakh from the house of her 'husband', was remanded to police custody till Wednesday.
The police have identified the accused as Roshanara Khan, a native of Jaipur.
Police records claim that Khan came to the city around one-and-a-half year ago in order to get herself some role in the film and television industry. Though she managed to get a couple of minor roles in some television shows, her career never really took off.
The officials said that during her stay in the city she met Kailash Jaiswal, 46, an interior designer, with whom she reportedly fell in love. The accused told Jaiswal that she is a widow and has two college-going children.
After a brief courtship, Jaiswal, reportedly with permission from his wife, got some rituals performed in a temple between him and Khan in January and she started staying with them as his second wife. The officials confirmed that Khan stayed at Jaiswal's home along with his wife and four children. She would often take flights to Jaipur, expenses for which were allegedly borne by Jaiswal.
However, few months later, Jaiswal learnt that Khan's first husband is alive, after one of his calls to her was answered by him. "This lead to daily quarrels between them," said senior inspector Dilip Rupwate.
On May 17, when Jaiswal was out on work and his first wife had gone to the market, Khan, taking advantage of the situation, fled with cash and valuables worth over Rs7 lakh from the house. When Jaiswal tried to reach her on her cellphone, he found it switched off.
Jaiswal then lodged a complaint at Oshiwara police station. After keeping a rigorous tab on her movements, the police finally managed to nab her in Jaipur and brought her to the city on Thursday.
The investigators are now trying to probe the possible involvement of Khan's first husband Shabbir and have asked him to come to the city for questioning. The police also suspect that Khan could have married Jaiswal in order to cheat him.
