Mumbai: Gateway jetty to be shut during Obama's visit
Mumbai: No ferry boats will be sailing off the Gateway of India for three days: November 5, 6 and 7. Given the vulnerability of the coastline, security agencies are taking all possible measures during the Obama visit.

Operations of private ferry boats and cruise boats going to Alibaug, Mandwa, Elephanta Island and Rewas have been asked to stay closed for three days.

Iqbal Mukadam, senior member, Ferry owners association, Gateway of India, said, "We received notices from the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) and the Colaba police to keep sailing operations shut for three days. There are around 90 ferry and cruise boats which operate from the Gateway and around 500 people who earn their daily livelihood out of it."

MbPT chairman Rahul Asthana confirmed that they had issued notices to ferry boat owners to stop sailing operations for three days for security reasons during president Obama's visit to the city.
