Jhunjhunu man sets wife, minor daughter on fire

Jhunjhunu (Rajasthan): Annoyed with his wife for her overstaying at her parental home and reluctance to returning to her in-laws, a man allegedly set his wife and two-year-old daughter on fire at Babai village in the Jhunjhunu district. Police arrested the accused after the woman and her daughter were rushed to Jaipur in a critical condition.

The incident took place on Monday morning when Brijesh, a native of Kumharon Ka Mohalla in Khetri village of Jhunjhunu, district, reached at Babai village at his in-laws' house.

"He (Brijesh) had returned from a Gulf country a few days ago. During his stay in the Gulf his wife moved to her parental house and was staying there for quite a long time. This had led to a family feud between the two families," an investigating officer (IO) of the case told DNA from Khetri village on phone.

"On Monday, Brijesh went to his in-laws house and asked his wife, Saroj, to come along with him. At this the wife showed reluctance," the investigating officer said.

Irritated over her reluctance, Brijesh brought a bottle of kerosene oil and in a fit of anger he allegedly set his wife Saroj and daughter on fire and fled from the scene, the officer added.

After the incident, the family members and neighbours of the victim's family were shocked. "After being informed we rushed the woman and her daughter to the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital at Jaipur," the investigating officer added.

Asked if any case was registered against the accused so far, police said that both the families have denied to lodge a complaint. "Despite that, we have registered a case under section 151, CrPC for disturbing peace," the IO added.

A medical official with the SMS Hospital said, "They [the injured women and the infant] have sustained 40% burn injuries and chances of their survival are very bleak. The doctors are trying to remove the dead skin. The next 48 hours for the mother and her child are crucial."
