Gold medallist is Mumbai's most eligible bachelor

Gold medallist is Mumbai's most eligible bachelor
Mumbai: The phone hasn't stopped ringing at the Yadav residence ever since the youngest son, Narsingh, won a gold medal for wrestling in the Commonwealth Games (CWG).

The customary congratulatory calls have been eclipsed by a flood of calls from parents asking whether the 22-year-old would like to marry their daughter, with generous gifts thrown in.

Neither the wrestler nor his family is interested in the proposals as they think he needs to concentrate on his career and he is too young to marry.

"He was getting many proposals even before he won the CWG gold, but the number has increased manifold since then. I have turned down all the proposals as he needs to concentrate on his training," said Jagmal Singh (50), who has been coaching Narsingh for 10 years.

Narsingh is preparing for the upcoming Asian Games as well as the Olympics in London in 2012 and marriage will only be a distraction for him at this stage, he added.

"Narsingh is a way better wrestler than his brother, who had to leave the sport after he took on the responsibility of the family. The same thing can't be allowed to happen to Narsingh. Wrestlers should concentrate on their sport," said Singh.

Narsingh agreed with his coach and said the sport is his first priority. "The proposals do not matter to me. Sports and academics are my priorities at the moment.

My daily schedule is completely planned out. I get no time to have fun and, thus, relationships are nowhere in the picture," said Narsingh, who was blushing while talking about his love life.

"I've never been in a relationship as I cannot afford losing the discipline I have maintained towards my passion. I will get married to whoever my parents choose for me, which I know will not happen anytime soon," he added.

Narsingh's father, Pancham Yadav, laughed at the mere mention of his son getting married so soon. "It's too early to even think about it. Besides, he is gearing up for the Olympics. We want him to decide when he wants to get married and to whom. His mother agrees with me on this," he said.

"We want a girl who will look after Narsingh. They should be compatible just like my elder son and his wife. The girl should know how to cook well too. Narsingh loves homemade food," said Narsingh's mother.

"The people sending in the proposals know me and are insisting on making Narsingh their son-in-law. I've rejected them endless times," Narsingh's coach told MiD DAY.

Among the interested people are a senior officer at the Income Tax Department in Mumbai, a renowned advocate and an Indian Army Major from Nashik.

He said that people are offering everything from cars to taking care of the wedding expenses to get the family to give their approval.
