Mumbai:
A man was arrested for allegedly impersonating a police officer and son of BJP leader L K Advani, police said today.
According to police, 54-year-old Ishwar Advani on April 23 had boarded a Delhi-bound flight after parking his car at a petrol pump in the airport premises.
Ishwar had approached the petrol pump manager Ranjit Singh directing him to make space for his BMW and claimed that he was a police officer and the son of L K Advani. (Read: Director in a hurry scripts Mumbai airport drama)
After Ishwar did not return to pick up the car for a long time, Singh informed the Santacruz airport police. The police after a search of the car, which had a 'Press' sticker, recovered a toy pistol and a police uniform along with the name tag of Maharashtra Police.
Ishwar was booked under Section 170 (personating a public servant), 171 (wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent) and 447 (Criminal trespass) of the IPC.
He was arrested on May 1 after he returned from Delhi and was produced before the suburban Andheri metropolitan magistrate. He was later released on bail.
