Tesla launched the Model Y in the Indian market in July with its first showroom in Mumbai, followed by the second one in the national capital. Now, the American brand has initiated the deliveries of its first car in the country, with the very first unit delivered to Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik. The pictures of the minister taking the delivery of the electric vehicle were shared on social media.

In the pictures, the Minister can be seen posing with his new white-coloured Tesla Model Y at Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex. This showroom was inaugurated by the Minister himself. "I am very happy to have received the first Tesla in India. It is a matter of pride for me. I did not get this car at any discount; I bought it by paying the full amount. I plan to use this Tesla to drop my grandson off at school so that more people see it, learn about electric vehicles, and are encouraged to adopt them," Mr Sarnaik said in his statement to ANI.

The manufacturer has launched the RWD (rear-wheel drive) and long-range RWD versions of the vehicle in India. The price for the RWD variant is Rs 59.89 lakh, while the long-range version is priced at Rs 67.89 lakh. It remains uncertain which variant Minister Pratap Sarnaik has opted for.

The Tesla Model Y's rear-wheel drive variant offers a choice of either a 60 kWh or a larger 75 kWh battery pack in India. The RWD variant is equipped with a single electric motor that generates approximately 295 hp. Furthermore, the 60 kWh battery claims a WLTP range of 500 km on a full charge, while the long-range version offers a range of 622 km.

In India, the Tesla Model Y will be available in seven different exterior colors and two interior trim options. Additionally, the vehicle will feature a 15.4-inch infotainment screen at the front, an 8-inch display for the rear, front seats with power adjustment, a power-adjustable steering column, dual-zone automatic climate control, 19-inch crossflow wheels, a fixed glass roof, and a power-operated rear liftgate.
