Renault's strong-hybrid Duster E-Tech has already sold out its entire 2026 production allocation in India, even before the manufacturer has formally announced pricing for the variant. The French automaker has temporarily suspended bookings for the hybrid-powered Duster and indicated that customer deliveries will commence around Diwali 2026. At that point, the company expects to reopen orders for units allocated to the 2027 production cycle. It is to be noted that the prices of the Renault Duster start at Rs 10.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

Strong Demand In Metro Cities

Renault India has revealed that approximately 39 per cent of Duster pre-bookings in metro cities are for the hybrid variant. This highlights a preference for electrified powertrains among urban buyers. The company has confirmed that the 2026 production run of the Duster E-Tech is fully subscribed, prompting it to enhance manufacturing capacity at its Chennai facility. Renault plans to reopen hybrid-variant bookings later in the year, once additional capacity and 2027-cycle allocations are in place.

Key Features of the E-Tech Hybrid System

The Duster E-Tech 160 is underpinned by a strong-hybrid powertrain comprising a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, a 1.4 kWh battery pack, and two electric motors, delivering a combined output of about 160 hp and 172 Nm of torque. With this, it is the biggest hybrid engine available in its segment. Additionally, it is more powerful than the hybrid engine rivals in the segment, including the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Victoris, and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Renault states that, under typical city-driving conditions, around 80 per cent of urban usage will come from electric-only mode, which will help reduce fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions without the need for plug-in charging, making efficiency another strong suit for the powertrain option. With official fuel-efficiency figures yet to be disclosed, the 2026-model Duster E-Tech is positioned to stand out in the mid-sized SUV segment by emphasising its high-electric-mode share in city operation.

From a mechanical standpoint, the system employs a multi-mode automatic transmission rather than a conventional e-CVT, along with four-disc brakes and 18-inch alloy wheels. This configuration aims to balance everyday efficiency with the rugged, SUV-oriented character associated with the Duster.
