New Jeep SUV To Be Based On Tata Sierra Platform, Launch Expected In 2028

At Stellantis' 2026 Investor Day, the company confirmed plans to develop a brand-new Jeep SUV using a platform sourced from Tata Motors. The announcement marks an important step in the long-standing Tata-Stellantis partnership, with the upcoming Jeep SUV set to be developed and manufactured in India before being exported to more than 50 countries. Reports suggest the new Jeep SUV will be based on the Tata Sierra's ARGOS platform and is expected to make its global debut in 2028.

New Jeep SUV: Tata Sierra Platform To Form The Base

The upcoming Jeep SUV is likely to use Tata Motors' ARGOS architecture, the same platform that underpins the recently launched Tata Sierra. ARGOS, which stands for All-Terrain Ready, Omni-Energy, and Geometry Scalable, has been developed to support multiple powertrain options and body styles.

The new Jeep SUV will benefit from the platform's flexibility, making it suitable for both Indian and international markets. This move is also expected to help Jeep lower development costs and improve competitiveness in the mid-size SUV segment.

New Jeep SUV: AWD Capability A Key Reason

One of the biggest reasons behind Jeep choosing the Tata Sierra platform is its ability to support all-wheel-drive technology. Since off-road capability is a core part of the Jeep brand, the new Jeep SUV is expected to offer at least one AWD variant.

The ARGOS platform has been engineered to accommodate AWD systems and support petrol, hybrid, and electric powertrains. This makes it an ideal foundation for the new Jeep SUV.

New Jeep SUV: Design And Features

Although the new Jeep SUV will share its platform with the Tata Sierra, Jeep will independently develop the vehicle's design and engineering. The SUV will get a unique exterior, interior, suspension setup, and brand-specific tuning.

As a result, the new Jeep SUV will have its own identity and driving character despite using the Tata Sierra platform underneath. Buyers can expect signature Jeep styling and rugged appeal when the model finally arrives.

New Jeep SUV: Engine And Powertrain Options

Reports indicate that Tata Motors could supply its 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine for the new Jeep SUV. This TGDi engine already powers models such as the Tata Sierra, Tata Harrier, and Tata Safari and complies with upcoming emission norms. An electric version of the new Jeep SUV could also be introduced in the future, thanks to the multi-energy nature of the ARGOS platform. However, a diesel option appears less likely at the moment.

New Jeep SUV: Launch Timeline And Production

The new Jeep SUV is expected to be manufactured at the Ranjangaon facility near Pune, which operates under the Tata-Stellantis joint venture. The SUV will not only serve Indian buyers but will also be exported to markets across Asia-Pacific, Africa, South America, and the Middle East.
