Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the CLA Electric for India, adding to its entry-level EV portfolio alongside the EQA and EQB. Bookings open on March 10, with the official launch scheduled for April 2026. The CLA revives a nameplate last seen in 2020 with the ICE model. Once introduced, it will compete directly against the BYD Seal EV in the Indian market.
Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric Vs BYD Seal EV Comparison: Specs
The Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric arrives in the 250+ variant, equipped with an 85 kWh battery pack. On the WLTP cycle, it delivers a claimed range of 792 km. A unique highlight is its two-speed gearbox, unlike the single-speed units found in most EVs. The motor generates 272 hp, enabling 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. Charging is supported by a 240 kW DC fast charger, which can replenish up to 400 km of range in under 20 minutes.

The BYD Seal, on the other hand, is offered in three trims: Dynamic, Premium, and Performance. The entry-level Dynamic uses a 61.44 kWh battery paired with a 204 hp rear motor. The Premium variant steps up to an 82.56 kWh battery and a 313 hp rear motor. The top-spec Performance combines the same 82.56 kWh battery with dual motors - 218 hp at the front and 313 hp at the rear - for AWD capability. BYD claims 0-100 km/h times of 7.5 seconds for the Dynamic, 5.9 seconds for the Premium, and just 3.8 seconds for the Performance.
