Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for a significant update to its popular Brezza SUV, with testing already underway for a version equipped with an underbody CNG tank. This development is expected to be part of the upcoming facelifted Brezza, which could arrive as the MY26 model. Traditionally, one of the biggest drawbacks of CNG-powered cars has been the bulky gas tank that consumes a large portion of boot space, limiting practicality for long trips. While Tata Motors and Hyundai are experimenting with twin-cylinder layouts to address this issue, Maruti Suzuki is taking a different route by adopting an underbody tank design.

The company first introduced this breakthrough technology in the Victoris, launched in September last year, and now appears to be extending it to the Brezza. A recent video from True Car Advice showcased the updated Brezza without camouflage, confirming the presence of Maruti's new S-CNG underbody setup. The absence of camouflage suggests that the model is nearing production readiness, hinting at a launch in the near future.

Spy shots of the test mule reveal that the facelifted Brezza will retain much of its current design language. The unit spotted carried red test plates and featured headlights, tail lamps, and wheels similar to the existing model, though the wheels were fully blacked out. This indicates that the most notable change lies beneath the body, with the integration of the underfloor CNG tank. The move is expected to free up boot space, making the Brezza more practical for families and long-distance travel.

In terms of performance, the Brezza is likely to continue with the familiar K15C 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. On petrol, the unit produces 99 hp and 137.1 Nm of torque, while in CNG mode it delivers 87 hp and 121.5 Nm. The current Brezza CNG offers a 55-litre water-equivalent tank capacity and a fuel efficiency of 25.51 km/kg, figures that may see slight revisions with the new underbody design.

Beyond the mechanical updates, Maruti Suzuki is expected to enhance the Brezza's feature list with the facelift. Reports suggest additions such as ventilated seats, a larger 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). These upgrades would align the Brezza with evolving customer expectations and strengthen its position in the competitive compact SUV segment.
