Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India is attempting to renew its presence in the highly demanded commuter segment with the launch of the Shine 100 DX. Being in a highly competitive segment, this new motorcycle in the Japanese manufacturer's lineup seems to be stepping on the toes of some of the best-sellers in the country, including the Hero Splendor Plus. While the latter has been the uncrowned king in the segment, the new entrant seems like a promising candidate. To help consumers choose between the two motorcycles, here's a comparison:

Hero Splendor Plus vs Honda Shine 100 DX: Design

The Hero Splendor Plus carries the same look and appeal that it initially had. However, the brand has made efforts to improve it by consistently upgrading the paint scheme and the livery of the bike. With the familiar slim body, the bike gets a 3D logo and Splendor+ badge finished in chrome. It offers a total of five colour options: Sports Red Black, Black Red Purple, Force Silver, Black Heavy Grey, and Blue Black.

In contrast, the Honda Shine 100 DX features a big headlamp with chrome embellishment, all encased in a plastic body. It boasts a rather thick-looking fuel tank that seamlessly integrates with the single-piece seat, enhancing the bike's overall look. This is further enhanced by four color options provided by the manufacturer: Pearl Igneous Black, Imperial Red Metallic, Athletic Blue Metallic, and Geny Gray Metallic.

The Hero Splendor Plus comes with an analog meter. However, the consumers who wish to have a digital instrument cluster and get Splendor Plus XTEC, which offers Bluetooth connectivity, SMS alert, mileage indicator, and more.

In line with the design, the manufacturer includes a fully digital LCD instrument cluster on the bike. This display provides essential information such as real-time mileage, distance to empty, digital clock, and more.

Both bikes feature telescopic front forks and five-step adjustable twin-shock absorbers at the rear. Similarly, the braking system consists of drum brakes at both the front and rear for the two motorcycles. Additionally, the bikes are equipped with tubeless tires on both ends, the only difference being that the Shine comes with 17-inch wheels while the Splendor has 18-inch units.

The Hero Splendor Plus is based on a tubular double cradle frame. It houses a 97.2 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine producing 7.9 hp of power at 8,000 rpm and 8.05 Nm of peak torque at 6,000. This power is routed to the wheel via a 4-speed transmission with a multiplate wet clutch.

Constructed on a diamond-type frame, the Honda Shine 100 DX is powered by a 98.98 cc single-cylinder engine that generates 7 hp at 7,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 8.04 Nm at 5,000 rpm. It operates with a four-speed transmission paired with a multiplate wet clutch. Riders have the choice between self-start and kick-start options.
