ARAI has successfully completed its first Euro NCAP Far-Side Sled Test, expanding India's vehicle safety testing capabilities to global standards.

ARAI Completes Euro NCAP 2026-Compliant Far-Side Sled Test Evaluation

The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has achieved a major milestone in vehicle safety testing by successfully completing its first Euro NCAP Far-Side Sled Test in India. With this development, ARAI has expanded its safety testing infrastructure and now offers the complete range of Euro NCAP sled test evaluations under one roof.

ARAI's recently added Euro NCAP Far-Side Sled Test capability allows the center to assess occupant protection in side-impact crashes when passengers move towards the opposite side of the cabin. The Far-Side Sled Test is an important part of the updated Euro NCAP 2026 safety protocol that aims to reduce injuries in severe side collisions.

According to ARAI, the organisation now has full capability across all major NCAP sled tests, including Knee Mapping, Vehicle Test Configuration (VTC), Whiplash and Far-Side evaluations. These Euro NCAP sled tests are conducted using controlled crash simulations to study how vehicle safety systems perform in real-world accident scenarios.

The Euro NCAP Far-Side Sled Test mainly evaluates the effectiveness of seats, seatbelts, airbags, and occupant restraint systems. In modern vehicles, centre airbags and advanced seat designs play a key role in protecting occupants during far-side impacts. The new ARAI testing capability will help manufacturers validate these systems locally instead of depending on overseas testing centres.

ARAI said the achievement supports the 'Design and Validate in India' initiative of the Government of India. The Euro NCAP 2026 Far-Side Sled Test capability available in India could help automakers develop vehicles for domestic and export markets, reduce development costs, and testing time.

The Pune-based testing and certification body also said that its Euro NCAP testing services are strengthened by in-house computer-aided engineering (CAE) capabilities. This allows manufacturers to do simulation, validation, and physical testing all under one roof.

India's automotive industry has taken a big step with ARAI's new Euro NCAP Far-Side Sled Test capability, as vehicle safety standards are becoming stricter worldwide. The development is also expected to help automakers improve crash safety performance and align future products with evolving international safety standards.
