Tata Motors began 2026 with a strong performance, reporting its highest monthly sales to date. The company sold 71,066 units in January, reflecting a 47.1% year-on-year increase. This growth highlights Tata's steady progress in both domestic and export markets. Among individual models, the Nexon stood out once again. The compact SUV recorded its best monthly sales, crossing 23,000 units in January. In addition, the Nexon achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 10 lakh cumulative sales, marking an important point in Tata's product journey.
The Nexon's consistent demand can be attributed to its positioning in the compact SUV segment. It has built recognition for its safety ratings, design, and feature set, while offering buyers a wide range of powertrain and variant options. The Tata Nexon continues to stand out in the compact SUV segment by offering one of the widest selections of engines and transmissions. This variety allows buyers to choose a configuration that best suits their driving style and powertrain requirements.
Tata Nexon 2026: Engine Options
At the entry level, the Nexon is powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 120 hp. In the base Smart variants, this unit is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Moving up the range, the Pure, Creative, and Fearless trims feature the same engine but with a 6-speed manual transmission, offering more flexibility for highway and city use.

For those preferring automatic options, Tata provides multiple choices. The turbo-petrol engine can be combined with a 6-speed AMT in select Smart, Pure, and Creative variants. Additionally, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT) is available in certain Creative trims and the top-spec Fearless variant, catering to buyers who want smoother and quicker gear shifts.

The Nexon also comes with a diesel engine option, a 1.5-litre unit producing 115 hp. This engine is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. Buyers can also opt for a 6-speed AMT in select Pure, Creative, and Fearless trims, giving diesel customers the convenience of an automatic without compromising efficiency.

Also, Tata expanded the Nexon lineup further by introducing a CNG variant. This version uses the same 1.2-litre turbocharged engine, tuned to deliver 100 hp when running on compressed natural gas. It is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
Tata Nexon 2026: Variants & Engine Options
The Tata Nexon offers a wide mix of transmission options across its variants and fuel types. In the petrol lineup, the entry-level Smart and Smart+ trims come with a 5-speed manual, while Smart+ also offers a 6-speed AMT.
Higher trims such as Pure S, Creative, Creative+ S, and Fearless+ PS feature a 6-speed manual, with Creative and Creative+ S additionally offering a 6-speed AMT. The Creative+ PS and Fearless+ PS variants are the only ones equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT).
For the diesel versions, Pure S, Creative, Creative+ S, and Fearless+ PS all come with a 6-speed manual and Pure +, Creative, Creative+ S, Creative +PS and Fearless+ PS also provide the convenience of 6-speed AMT options.
The CNG option is available for all the variants of the Tata Nexon from Smart to Fearless +PS variants.
