Uttar Pradesh elections: Throwing Mayawati out of power was BJP's motive, says Uma Bharti
New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti today said that her party's 'motive' was to throw the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) out of power in Uttar Pradesh. She said that corruption was one of the biggest reasons behind Mayawati's loss in the Uttar Pradesh elections, results of which were declared on Tuesday.

"We didn't want BSP to come back in power... that was our motive. Graft was a very strong reason to fall of BSP. She (Mayawati) was not compassionate as well," Ms Bharti told the  media on Wednesday.

"Mayawati should accept that graft and not meeting people at ground level were the main reasons for her downfall. She believed in casteism; she forgot that there was another party which was always playing caste politics. She should introspect," she added.

She also said that now that the Samajwadi Party (SP) has come to power, she is worried about the state.

"I am very worried for UP. SP rule hasn't been good for the state. Law and order went for a toss. As and when Mulayam Singh has been the chief minister, there has been fear in the state," she said.
