More fear and violence in Chhattisgarh than in J&K: Rahul Gandhi

Raipur: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today said there was more violence and fear in Naxal-affected Chhattisgarh, ruled by Bharatiya Janata Party or BJP, than in Jammu and Kashmir.

"BJP talks about combating terrorism. (But) more fear and more violence are in Chhattisgarh than in any other state. I had been to Jammu and Kashmir recently. The violence and fear is more here," Mr Gandhi said, while addressing an election campaign rally in Raipur this evening.

Accusing the BJP government of not taking action against Naxalism, the Congress No 2 said violence prevented development.

"Congress leaders were killed in the Naxal attack (in Bastar) but nothing has been done so far... somebody tell them (BJP) that this is the state which is worst hit by violence.

"They talk about development but where there is violence and fear, development can't take place," he said.

He also said natural resources of the state belonged to the women, youth and people of the state, and not the "ministers".

"They talk about development but can't they see the atrocities on women and tribals, corruption, and one-sided development?"

Listing UPA's achievements, Mr Gandhi praised legislations such as Right to Information Act, Right to Education Act, Food Security Bill and Land Acquisition Bill which were brought by the Congress-led Central government.
