The more the 'marrier': Engineer marries 6 girls, held

Mumbai:

An engineer, who was working with Air India, has been arrested for allegedly marrying and cheating six women in the last two-and-a-half years, police said on Thursday.

Tushar Waghmare, who was sacked by Air India after he got arrested recently, set off on his wedding spree after his first wife divorced him in 2006. She had left him after his parents died of AIDS, police said.

Explaining the 40-year-old's modus operandi, Deputy Commissioner of Police R Vatkar said Waghmare had posted his profile on a marriage portal with the name Tushar Bapat and claimed he is a divorced Brahmin looking for a bride from his community.

"He mentioned that he wanted a good looking, working woman and he was working with Air India as an engineer."

"The families of the girls never bothered to check his background as they were impressed by his job profile," Vatkar said.

Waghmare had invited parents of the prospective brides to his Lokhandwala and Jogeshwari flats before the marriage and also showed them a fake divorce document, he said.

Recently, he married an architect who discovered that she has been cheated, and complained to the police. Police are investigating if he has cheated more women, the DCP said.
