Highlights

  • A father received medical help for his son on a train to Vaishno Devi
  • He had reached out to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Twitter
  • The Ministry of Railways responded to him and promptly took action
In a win for the Railway Ministry, a distressed father managed to receive swift medical assistance for his son after tweeting Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu.

Mr Bibhuti, who goes by the username @goneinseconds on Twitter, tagged @sureshpprabhu and @RailMinIndia in his tweets seeking help after his six-year-old son fell from the upper berth of their train heading to Vaishno Devi from New Delhi on March 31.

In about 20 minutes, someone from the Ministry of Railways reached out to Mr Bibhuti on Twitter, first asking for his mobile number and then promising assistance at the next station in Ludhiana.

After a few hours Mr Bibhuti tweeted again, thanking the Railway Minister and his team for the prompt assistance.

Interestingly, this wasn't Mr Bibhuti's first tweet to the ministry that day. Just an hour before his SOS for his son, he had also made a complaint about dirty toilets and mosquitos on the train during the same journey.

This tweet had also been acknowledged and action was promptly taken, going by Mr Bibhuti's tweet.

There have been several similar instances when the Railway Ministry has taken immediate action after being asked for help on Twitter.

In February this year, a tweet to the Railway Minister helped parents find their runaway daughter. In other cases, the ministry has helped provide milk, wheelchair and other assistance to those who asked for help.
