New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was detained by the police after he tried to meet the relatives of army veteran RK Grewal, who had committed suicide allegedly over an insufficient pension, was released close to midnight on Wednesday.

Here are the 10 latest developments:

  1. After his release, Mr Kejriwal said instead of being sympathetic, the government had "directed the police to beat up the family". "Modiji has lied to the entire country saying that OROP has been implemented," he added.

  2. Mr Kejriwal was detained for nearly 5 hours at the RK Puram police station on Wednesday, where Delhi minister Gopal Rai was also detained. Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was also detained, allegedly for over 10 hours.

  3. Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, who had also tried to meet the family of Subedar Grewal, had been detained twice, once for over 70 minutes in the afternoon and again in the evening. At a police station, he asked cops if they "have no shame" for having also detained the veteran's family.

  4. In a video released by the Congress, Jaswant Grewal, the son of Mr Grewal, who allegedly consumed poison on the lawns of a government building in Delhi on Tuesday, said he and his family were "abused and thrashed" by the police when they tried to meet Rahul Gandhi.

  5. The video has shots from inside a police station and several policemen are seen pulling Jaswant Grewal, as he pleads with them saying, "Please don't do this".

  6. The police said they had detained Jaswant Grewal after he joined Aam Aadmi Party workers in impromptu protests outside a hospital.

  7. In his suicide note, Mr Grewal, 65, said he had not received the increased pension promised to him by the government under its One-Rank-One-Pension scheme, that ensures equal pension for those who retired years ago to those at the same rank retiring now.

  8. Many senior Congress leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia, had also courted arrest.

  9. Both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party have accused the government of failing to implement the One-Rank-One-Pension scheme.

  10. "I don't have anything to say, police will do what it has to for risk reduction," said Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
