Court trouble for Soren, summoned in murder case

Court trouble for Soren, summoned in murder case
Ranchi: His political career has just been revived, but there's fresh trouble for Jharkhand's Chief Minister Shibu Soren.

A Sessions Court has ordered Soren to appear before it on February 3, in a case relating to the murder of two people in 1974. Nine people, including Soren, were accused of the murders committed in Kudko Village in Giridih, Jharkhand.

Eight have been acquitted, but the case against Soren is pending as he did not attend hearings.

NDTV: When will you go to Giridih?
Soren: I have to go, so I will go

More trouble lies ahead as the Supreme Court too is opening a second murder case against him - that of his private secretary Shashinath Jha, who was murdered in 1994.

Jha's family had appealed to the apex court to reopen the case.

Jharkhand has got a government with a fractured mandate. Worse, they have a chief minister with a worrying reputation whose trials will be closely watched in the days to come.
