Commemorating RSS leader's anniversary

Commemorating RSS leader's anniversary
Jammu: Paying homage to the RSS leader, BJP president Rajnath Singh said the party will not shun its ideology and it will follow the guidelines laid by Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.

"Was the recent election any sort of a referendum of its ideology? Ideologies can't be changed on the basis of wins or losses," said Rajnath Singh.

RSS chief Mohan Rao Bhagwat said the term Hindu is basic to the Sangh philosophy, something that can't be compromised.

"Even if we become unpopular by using the word Hindu, we don't mind. Perhaps the political parties will weigh the word in terms of popularity, but we don't want that. Whatever anybody says or writes, we won't leave it, because it's true," said RSS Chief, Mohan Rao Bhagwat.

Fifty-seven years ago Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, founder of Bhartiya Jan Sangh, died in a prison in Jammu Kashmir. He was arrested for violating the state's special status and entering the state without a proper permission.

Though the BJP has never taken a lead role in the state politics, but last year's Amarnath land agitation helped the party to make substantial gains in the state elections.  Its tally rose to 11 from just one member in the 2002 state elections.

For BJP it was a day to remember Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, but the party president made it quite clear that neither Shyama Prasad Mukherjee's ideology nor BJP's basic ideology had anything to do for the parties losses in the elections.
