Priyanka Gandhi takes on Narendra Modi again, this time over "RSVP" remark

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra addresses a rally in Raebareli

Raebareli: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today dispensed her latest attack on Narendra Modi, the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, with a derision of his "RSVP" remark against her family, which leads the Congress.

At a rally recently, Mr Modi had said that the Congress is faithful to "an RSVP model - Rahul, Sonia, Vadra and Priyanka", the four members of the Gandhi family. (In Bihar rally, Narendra Modi's 'RSVP' jibe at the Gandhi family)

"ABCD, RSVP....this is what some parties say.  They aren't addressing a primary school," said Priyanka, 42, to voters in Raebareli, where she is campaigning for her mother. (Watch video here)

Priyanka Gandhi's older brother, Rahul, is Congress vice-president; her mother, Sonia, is party chief; her husband, Robert Vadra, has been accused of leveraging his connect to the party's First Family to accrue illicit and highly profitable land deals in Haryana, where the Congress is in power. Earlier this week, Priyanka for the first time acknowledged the controversy commissioned by her husband's real estate business. "My husband is being humiliated," she said to voters, vowing that the attacks will make her family stronger. (My husband is being humiliated, says Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to Raebareli)

Mr Modi, 64, has commissioned a high-octane campaign as he seeks a promotion from the chief minister of Gujarat to the country's top job.  The BJP and he have pitched his economic development of Gujarat as his main qualification over a hardline right-wing agenda. Mr Modi has also accused the Gandhis of deep-rooted corruption, daring them to offer an explanation for what he describes as Mr Vadra's phenomenal good fortune in his business interests.

Though Priyanka is not contesting the election, her feisty comments against Mr Modi have planted her on the political centre-stage this week. (Dangerous to vest power in one man: Priyanka Gandhi's jibe at Narendra Modi

Today, she echoed her brother, Rahul, who has, in rallies, accused Mr Modi of allowing Gujarat to be hijacked by crony capitalism. (Priyanka references Snoopgate, says 'throw out netas who tap women's phones')

"The people understand your Gujarat model in which thousands of acres of land was given to your friends at throwaway prices," she said today.
