New Delhi: Delhi government today urged the Centre to change the land use category of Millennium bus depot, saying removing it will affect bus services in Central Delhi.

Delhi transport minister Gopal Rai today met Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and sought to change the land use from river and water-body" (Zone 'O') to "Transportation".

"In the meeting, Rai demanded that Millennium bus depot should not be removed from the present site. He told the Union Minister that if the depot is removed citing violation, the bus services in different areas of South Delhi will be affected," said a senior government official.

The official also said that the DTC will seek court's direction to give it some more time to change the land use category of Millennium bus depot.

"The minister has assured the Delhi transport minister that he will examine the matter," the official added.

Earlier this week, the Delhi High Court was informed by the DDA that it cannot change the land use of the area where Millennium Bus Depot is built from "river and water-body" (Zone 'O') to "Transportation".

Meanwhile, Mr Rai formally launched a campaign for imparting 'Gender Sensitisation Training' to DTC Marshals.

Emphasizing the need of overall security of women in Delhi at all public places, Mr Rai said, security in buses or any other mode of public transport is the top most priority of this Government.
