Mumbai: A 19 year-old student was killed, while two others were injured in an attack by three alleged drug addicts in a deserted lane in Oshiwara's Ganesh Nagar on Friday night. All accused were later arrested on Saturday, Oshiwara police confirmed.

According to police, the deceased, identified as Sachin Nandgawale (19), was pursuing a computer software course from a private institute in Jogeshwari.  Nandgawale's family at  Behrambaugh, Jogeshwari, said that he had called them on Friday night, to tell them that he would be late by half an hour. "We waited for him all night.

A police team reached our home early on Saturday morning, informing us about his death," said the teenager's father Prakash Nandgawale.

Police officials describing the chain of events said that Mahendra Morya (20), an electrician, another victim, was on his way to Goregaon. While waiting at a bus stop, he wanted to relieve himself and therefore went to an open space nearby. The three accused who were allegedly consuming drugs, asked Morya to hand over his cell phone and money. When Morya refused, the trio dragged him into a deserted lane and assaulted him with a bamboo stick.

Police officials confirmed that Nandgawale and Varun Yadav, the third victim, noticed Morya being assaulted from a chawl nearby and intervened to help. DCP ZONE 9, K M M Prasana, said, "The three accused were looting Mahindra when Varun and Sachin interfered. The accused hit Sachin with the bamboo stick, and he succumbed to injuries." Police sources added, "Varun Yadav and Sachin Nandgawale are gay. They were getting intimate in a room when they saw the accused assaulting Mahendra in the small lane to loot him."
