Ahmedabad: Verna-loving car thief held

Ahemdabad: If you had your Verna car stolen, perhaps it is time to make a trip to the office of Detection of Crime Branch (DCB). No that is not the place to register your complaint, it just happens to be the place where officials have kept six Verna cars recovered from a gang of car thieves.

If your car is not in the haul, then don't worry, it may be in the next haul of 15 cars that the officials will soon be recovering in the next few days. In fact, it seems this particular gang had a weakness for only Verna cars. The DCB has arrested one person in this connection. Earlier two members of the same gang were arrested while three are still absconding.

"They were familiar with all the technicalities of a Verna car and had also identified a secondary market for the same. Hence they targeted Verna cars," police inspector, DCB, JM Yadav told DNA. Yadav said the investigating agency has recovered six cars and will recover another 15 in the next few days.

Yadav and his team arrested one Aavesh Mover, a resident of Rajkot with a car that they suspect was stolen from Juhapura. Yadav told DNA that the police are on the lookout for three more people in the case. Yadav said almost all the cars stolen by the gang and recovered by the police were lifted from Ahmedabad.

DCB is hunting for Ankit, Badal and Pruthvi - the other members of the gang. The agency had earlier nabbed one Ashok Yadav along with Pratikrajsinh Jethava and recovered four Verna cars from them.

According to police sources, as many as 30 Verna cars have been stolen from the city in the last one-and-a-half month and this gang is believed to be behind all the theft.

The DCB has also appealed to citizens to check for the authenticity of cars sold to them with a Haryana passing. They have also asked them to crosscheck the chassis number with the company.
