Man gets life sentence for wife's murder

Aurangabad: The district and sessions court in Aurangabad has sentenced a 25-year-old man to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife.

The court awarded one-year sentence to his mother for harassing the victim mentally.

According to prosecutor Bhimrao Pawar, the deceased, Heena Begum Shaikh Junaid, was frequently tortured by her husband Junaid, who said that he did not like her and had married her against his wishes.

He also suspected her character. On June 11, 2009, Junaid poured kerosene on her and set her afire.

She died after sustaining 90 per cent burns.

Her dying statement had named Junaid. The prosecution examined seven witnesses.

Finding him guilty of murder, judge R R Kadam sentenced him to life imprisonment, and his mother, Zulekha Shaikh Mateen, to one years' rigorous imprisonment for harassing the deceased.
