Muzaffarnagar:
Sending an innocuous new year card to his lover cost a dalit youth his life. Bobby, 25, a resident of Shahjudhi village here, was today shot dead while his mother and a sibling suffered bullet injuries when they were allegedly attacked by brothers of his lover in the district, police said.
The youth had sent a new year card with the couple's picture to the girl, who belonged to a different community and lived in his neighbourhood.
The girl's brothers Salim and Yousif became angry when they saw the card and after a heated argument with the youth, the duo fired at Bobby and his relatives in his house, police said.
Anmoli Devi, the victim's mother, and brother Bhism suffered bullet injuries and were admitted to the district hospital.
The accused have been arrested, police said, adding that the incident triggered tension in the area after which security has been tightened.
