21-year-old woman, who was raped, set on fire in Etawah in UP, dies in hospital
Etawah, Uttar Pradesh: A college student who was allegedly raped and then set on fire in Uttar Pradesh's Etawah district last week, allegedly by the man she loved, died in hospital today.

The 21-year-old had suffered severe burn injuries on July 9 and doctors had said her chances of survival were slim. In a statement to the police, she had named a man, who was arrested last week.

Police said the student had been in a relationship with the accused man for about two years. While she wanted to get married, they said, he had refused.

Last week, the student told the police in her statement, the man had invited her to his house, where he allegedly raped her. When she resisted and threatened to complain, he allegedly set her on fire.

The student's siblings say that she was in love with the accused. "He called her; she went because she trusted him... She came back running and was on fire," her sister said.

The student's family have, in their complaint to the police, alleged that the members of the man's family harassed her. A case of torture and harassment has been registered against several of his family members including a 70-year-old grandmother.

The police are also investigating whether there was a feud between the two families.
