New Delhi: As thousands confront the Uttar Pradesh winter with flimsy tents and not enough blankets in the refugee camps of Muzaffarnagar, a senior official in the state government believes the dropping temperature is no big deal. "Nobody dies of the cold; if people did, then nobody would survive in Siberia," said AK Gupta, one of the most senior bureaucrats in the state government.

  • Those people who go before the press should be careful while selecting their words so that they don't hurt anyone.
Akhilesh Yadav, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister 27/12/2013
  • I would like to say that he should spend a night with his family in the camps and he won't need to go Siberia.
Kamal Faruqui, Samajwadi Party leader 27/12/2013
  • It is deplorable, inhuman and insensitive.
Ravi Shankar Prasad, BJP spokesperson 27/12/2013
  • "Can't die of the cold"!!!! Send him out in a few less clothes & let's see if he isn't singing a different tune pretty damn quick.
Omar Abdullah, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister (on Twitter) 27/12/2013
  • It is an extremely insensitive, factually incorrect statement, it is like adding salt to the wounds.
    Brinda Karat, Left leader 27/12/2013
