BJP's turnaround on Article 370 final nail in Vajpayee and Advani's legacy, says Congress
Narendra Modi's suggestion that the benefits of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir be debated has caused a political storm.
  • As per the Constitution, the debate will go on whether Article 370 will end or continue - at least there should be debate whether Article 370 has benefitted Jammu and Kashmir or not.
Narendra Modi, BJP's prime ministerial candidate 01/12/2013
  • I challenge him (Narendra Modi) or any of his minions to reproduce verbatim the section of Article 370 that determines the J&K state subject law.
Omar Abdullah, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister 02/12/2013
  • Is the turnaround on Article 370 the final nail in the legacy of Vajpayee ji & Advani ji?
    Manish Tewari, Congress leader 02/12/2013
  • It is wrong to say that the BJP has gone soft on Article 370. (Narendra) Modi has just asked if there has been any benefit from 370.
    Sushma Swaraj, BJP leader 02/12/2013
  • Article 370 is permanent and cannot be scrapped. Even Parliament is not constitutionally mandated to review or scrap it. We express concern at the serious gaps in the constitutional knowledge (with regard to Article 370) of BJP's prime ministerial candidate.
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, People's Democratic Party leader 02/12/2013
  • Raking up the issue is nothing but an attempt to again draw a line of division in the country. I am a supporter of Article 370 for state of Jammu and Kashmir... there is neither a need for debate on the subject nor any need for changing it.
Nitish Kumar, Bihar Chief Minister and JDU leader 02/12/2013
  • Article 370 of the Constitution stands for unity and integrity of the country as it bonds people together.
    Salman Khurshid, Foreign Minister 02/12/2013
  • The BJP believes that Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee's vision of complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir was the correct vision for India. The Nehruvian vision of a separate status has given rise to aspirations for the pre-1953 status, self-rule and even Azadi.
Arun Jaitley, senior BJP leader 02/12/2013
  • Article 370 is not Babri Masjid that the BJP can bring it down.
    Mehbooba Mufti, PDP leader 02/12/2013
  • I challenge Modi to come and debate one-on-one with me on Article 370 after reading the constitutional history of India. Article 370 is an integral part of the Constitution of India. Neither Parliament nor any authority including the President can change it.
Saifuddin Soz, Jammu and Kashmir State Congress chief 02/12/2013
