Tucked away inside the dense wilderness of the Periyar Tiger Reserve in Kerala's Pathanamthitta district sits the revered Sabarimala Temple. Surrounded by the charming Western Ghats, the holy shrine is dedicated to Lord Ayyappa. The Sabarimala Temple is more than a spiritual abode; it is also a destination where travellers can experience Kerala's lush green forests and misty hills. Now, in a significant move to enhance the travel experience for millions of devotees, the Southern Railway has introduced exclusive special train services to the temple.

The initiative has been undertaken keeping in mind the pilgrimage season, also known as the Mandala–Makaravilakku. The Mandala Pooja Maholsavam commenced on November 16, marking the beginning of one of the biggest annual pilgrimages in India. As per the official website of the temple, the Mandala Pooja will be held on December 27, followed by the Thirunadai Thirappu – Makaravilakku Mahotsavam from December 30 to January 20, 2026.
