- Chris reviews Indian train food, comparing it to British takeaway dishes like butter chicken
The Hutchinsons, a family of five originally from the UK, are known to document their global travel experiences on social media. Their posts often receive a lot of interest, just like one of their latest videos featuring a train journey in India. For context: Chris and Tamira Hutchinson, with their three young daughters, chose to leave their jobs and sell their house in early 2023 to travel the world together. They were inspired by the pause of the pandemic to stop waiting for the "right moment" and trade their daily routine for a life of shared adventures. As a family, they now explore new countries while homeschooling their girls on the go. They recently came to India, and their experiences have grabbed many eyeballs online.

One of their latest reels shows Chris reviewing a hot evening meal on board an Indian train. He starts by saying, "This looks like a Saturday night British Indian takeaway meal." He points out the foil containers the food is served in and notes that they are similar to those used for British takeaway food items. He admits that he doesn't know what the dishes are called. He compares the ones he's given to classic British takeaway treats like butter chicken, korma and naan (The delicacies served are actually paneer makhani/curry, yellow dal, and paratha).
Chris digs into the desi delights and enjoys their flavours. His verdict: "Pretty good. A bit spicy." He ends his meal with what he calls "saffron ice cream." He explains, "You don't get this from an Indian takeaway on a Saturday night. This is a speciality." He ends up loving the dessert. Watch the complete video below:

In the comments, many people corrected Chris and provided the actual names of the dishes he enjoyed. Although he was mistaken about what they were, some users appreciated his positive response. They felt glad that, as a foreigner, he was not focusing only on the negative aspects of train travel in India. Read some of the reactions below:
"It's not butter chicken, it's butter paneer (cottage cheese), and 2nd, not korma, it's dal (lentil curry) and the third one we call it parotha (chapati but grilled with a bit of oil)."
"Great to see you guys travelling in Vande Bharat."
"Indian train food quality has improved drastically in the past few years, but still, I like to order Domino's pizza on the train rather than eating this food."
"All foreigners know about Indian food is butter chicken."
"The middle one is probably called daal here, not any type of chicken. And the left curry is probably paneer makhani. Both are equally very tasty in their own right."
"I really appreciate you for showing the real India. This is how you truly travel and experience different countries - by seeing them for yourselves instead of believing what the Western media portrays. Kudos to you, and enjoy your stay here in India!"
Videos of foreigners' positive experiences on board Indian trains often go viral on social media. Here are some examples from the recent past.
