In a video going viral on Instagram, a traveller shared his disturbing experience of applying visa through Atlys, an Indian travel company that claims to "guarantee" timely visa approvals. In the clip, the man said he made the mistake of applying for a Mongolian visa through Atlys, after successfully obtaining his China visa on his own. According to him, the Atlys app promised a Mongolian visa within three days of application.

However, he alleged that it took the company 15 days to process the visa. Worse still, the passport number printed on the issued visa was incorrect. The traveller claimed that if he had travelled with this incorrect visa, he could have been detained at the Mongolian border and deported.

He further stated that the ordeal not only cost him valuable time and money due to cancelled tickets but also caused immense stress. The user expressed concern that such mistakes by visa service providers can harm the reputation of Indian passport holders internationally.

In response to the complaint, Atlys commented under the video, writing, "Hello! Our team has been in constant touch with you. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused. The correct visa was issued on 29 September and we're actively assisting you to ensure a smooth and safe exit from China."

The traveller later replied, "I'm in touch with your team and figuring out the way to resolve this situation... will soon update."

Following the viral post, several other Instagram users took to the comments section to share similar experiences with the company.

Commenting on the incident, Mohak Nahta, Founder & CEO of Atlys, told NDTV Travel, "Visa processing is extremely complex across hundreds of corridors, with different rules, requirements, and technical touchpoints. In this particular case, the traveller was an Indian citizen in China applying for a Mongolia visa, which meant multiple layers of complexity. But complexity is not an excuse. This was an error on our part , and we sincerely apologize for the same."

He added, "Our system shows scanned documents to travellers three times, and while it catches 99.08% of errors, this one slipped through. Once it was flagged, we immediately corrected the document, supported the traveller, and ensured he reached Mongolia. He has since shared a positive story about his experience. We are now adding stronger checks and anomaly detection so that even rare misses like this are caught before they ever reach a traveller."
