India's First Private Railway Station In Bhopal Offers Airport-Like Facilities. Here's What To Expect

There is something special about train journeys. The rhythmic chugging of wheels, shared tiffins along the ride, and the scenic views passing by make it all the more mesmerising for travellers. Now, India's first privately managed railway station is bringing a new level of comfort and convenience to rail travel. Located in Bhopal, Rani Kamalapati Station was previously known as Habibganj Station. It was redeveloped by the Bansal Group in collaboration with the Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the station in November 2021. Now, the Rani Kamalapati Station operates under a Public-Private Partnership model. While it is owned by Indian Railways, its day-to-day operations and maintenance are managed by the private developer.

The station has undergone a remarkable transformation as part of Indian Railways' initiative to modernise major stations nationwide. This revamped station now offers an airport-like experience, providing travellers with a range of facilities including a fully air-conditioned lobby, high-speed elevators, 24/7 power backup and purified drinking water. Additionally, it features a spacious covered parking area, multiple retail outlets, food courts, a convention centre, office spaces and a hotel.

The emphasis on convenience and accessibility is particularly noteworthy. The station is equipped with automatic ticketing systems, clean and well-maintained platforms and clear signage, making the travel experience hassle-free for commuters. Moreover, the station complex houses a super-speciality hospital and automobile showrooms, setting an example for future multi-use transport hubs.

As a stop for premium trains like the Vande Bharat Express, Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express, and Duronto Express, Rani Kamalapati Railway Station connects Bhopal to major cities across India. In a country with more than 7,300 stations and millions of daily visitors, this station serves as a shining example of what Indian Railways can achieve in the future.
