The Delhi High Court on Monday asked Coal India Ltd (CIL) how it was offering coal from two Chhattisgarh mines to National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) when it had cited production issues to cancel an e-auction of 49,000 metric tonnes (MT) of the mineral, mined from the same area, won by Jindal Power Ltd (JPL).

On Saturday Hindalco bagged the Gare Palma IV/4 coal block by bidding Rs 3,001 per tonne. On February 19, it had bagged the Gare IV/5 mine in Chhattisgarh and on February 15 it won the Kathautia mine in Jharkhand.

JSPL Firms Up by 6% after Delhi High Court Decision

A bench of justices Badar Durrez Ahmed and Sanjeev Sachdeva took out Utkal B1 and B2 blocks in Odisha and Gare Palma IV/6 in Chhattisgarh, from the auction process, saying that while changing end-use of these blocks to power sector, the aspect of its adverse impact on steel sector "has not been considered".
