Thiruvannthapuram: A decision on providing three subsidised LPG cylinders in addition to the six fixed by the Centre to all consumers in the state would be taken at the ruling UDF liaison committee meeting next week, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Thursday.

The state cabinet discussed the matter, but referred the issue to be discussed at the next UDF meeting to be held on October 17, he told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram.

The government had already decided to supply three additional subsidised LPG cylinders to people belonging to the below poverty line (BPL) category.

The cabinet decided to allocate Rs 75 lakh this year to ensure subsidised LPG cylinders for hostels of scheduled tribe students. In the case of hostels for scheduled caste students, funds from the department would be utilised, he said.

There are 107 hostels and 18 model residential schools for ST students in the state.

The cabinet approved a student entrepreneurship project, wherein students could get an opportunity to start IT based ventures. The state would provide one lakh sq feet building space for the project in co-operation with Start-up Students Village at the KINFRA IT Park at Kochi.

In the first phase, 25,000 sq feet would be given in May next and another 75,000 sq feet in January 2014, he said.

Mr Chandy termed the project as 'revolutionary' saying it would encourage IT youths to become entrepreneurs instead of waiting for jobs.
