Srinagar-Jammu highway opens for one-way traffic

Srinagar-Jammu highway opens for one-way traffic
Srinagar: After remaining blocked for days due to heavy snowfall, the Srinagar-Jammu national highway opened for one-way traffic on Tuesday. Vehicles will now be able to move from Jammu to Srinagar.

Being the only road connection between the landlocked valley and the rest of the country, the highway serves as an important route for the supply of essential supplies to the region.

Heavy snowfall continued to disrupt normal life and the mercury remained below zero degrees in the valley.

Power supply has been partially restored in the region, but people are demanding better supply to cope with the extreme cold conditions.

The recent snowfall has given rise to several problems for residents of the region.  The non-availability of basic facilities including transport, water, electricity and shortage of medicines has further aggravated their woes.

The Army has started the drive of distributing medicines among the patients in different far-flung areas of Budgam district.

The Army has been visiting the area with two doctors who are treating patients at their homes and distributing medicines as per their need.
