2010 CWG OC forms 23 sub-committees for greater coordination

New Delhi: After getting a rap on its knuckles by the Commonwealth Games Federation, the 2010 CWG Organising Committee on Friday formed 23 sub-committees to ensure greater co-ordination and speedy completion of the ongoing projects.

"We have to go full speed ahead and ensure that we deliver the best Commonwealth Games next year," Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi told chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of the sub-committees at a meeting here.

"While we have great support from the Central and State Governments, we are dependent on you to ensure that we organise a memorable Games," Kalmadi said.

The CGF had recently warned that if the construction work at various venues are not speeded up, the Games could face "partial failure" and Kalmadi was aware of it.

"The Commonwealth Games Federation expects perfection in each aspect of the Games and we have to be ready for the challenges as we are committed to delivering the best Games," said Kalmadi, also Indian Olympic Association president.

"Each of your teams will have to be at its best to ensure that the 34 Functional Areas in the Organising Committee perform at optimum levels."

The meeting was attended by OC vice-chairman Randhir Singh, Jagdish Tytler (Volunteers Committee), KP Singh Deo (Games Technical Conduct), Kiran Walia (Health Committee), AS Dulat (Security Committee), Amitabh Kant (Media & Publicity), Nafisa Ali (Green Games Committee).

Out of the 23 sub-committees, eight clusters have been formed which would meet regularly to ensure greater co-ordination among them.

The chairpersons and vice-chairpersons were told they were free to interact with any sub-committee that was not within a suggested cluster.

Randhir Singh said the clusters would remain flexible and the committees must include members of other sub-committees within their respective clusters.

"We are keen that you have regular meetings of your committees. We have one year to go for the Games and the onus is on you to ensure that we deliver a memorable and the best ever Games," he said.
